Pothole Point Trail

Discover Pothole Point Trail, a must-visit destination for those seeking a short and simple nature adventure. Conveniently located with parking at the trailhead, this trail offers stunning views of the western side of the park and unique rock formations nearby. We suggest beginning the loop in a clockwise direction, although either way will provide an enjoyable experience.

The initial section of the trail is dusty, but once you get up on the flat rock slabs, you'll see the Needles area on your left, and the breathtaking soil crust on your right. Please be mindful of this living ecosystem and follow the cairns that mark the trail.

Avoid stepping onto the black cryptobiotic crust to prevent any damage to this essential part of the environment. As you continue on the trail, you'll witness the beauty of the park unfold before you. Take a right turn around a large rock outcropping, and treat yourself to amazing views of the western side of the park. Be sure to keep an eye out for the modern-art-like sandstone rocks on your right. And, throughout your journey, take a moment to observe the trail's namesake- the potholes in the rock that may still hold water after recent rains.

Pothole Point Trail is a perfect way to experience the natural beauty and splendor of this area- and we invite you to enjoy it while preserving and protecting the environment.
