Dark Canyon Wilderness Recreation Area

You'll find the Dark Canyon Wilderness Recreation Area sitting on the Colorado Plateau. The US Congress marked this area as a designated wilderness in the mid-eighties, showcasing its incredible features that range from stone arches and towering ponderosa pines to meadows, hanging gardens, and deserts. The steep sandstone walls that surround visitors sculpt this area and give the canyon its name, with ancient rock art and Puebloan structures showing a glimpse into the past.
