In commemoration of 250 years since the founding of the United States of America, many Americans are participating in the Walk 250 event— walking 250 miles on U.S. soil in 2026.
Put in some of those miles in Utah's Canyon Country, and you'll walk away with prizes!
WHY WALK HERE
"Monument Valley is the place where God put the West." — John Wayne
You don't need to cover all 25O of your miles here—although you totally could!
Whether you're planning to get all your miles or just some of them in southern Utah, we're rewarding all Canyon Country walkers with a prize to go along with beautiful scenic views.
San Juan County holds more protected wilderness, more ancient cultural sites and more geological drama than almost any other county in the United States.
Whatever kind of hike you're looking for as part of your Walk 250 Challenge, we've got the trail for you. See our trail guide to plan your route.

SPEND THE DAY OUTSIDE
This fantastic one-day sample of Canyon Country—pairing geological wonder with ancestral history in a single 5-6 mile walk you can complete in one day.
Begin your day descending into White Canyon via a dramatic staircase and wooden bridge that takes you beneath one of the largest natural bridges in the world. The shaded canyon floor is a cool respite, even in summer.
SHORT WALK TO NEXT TRAILHEAD
The easiest and most elegant of the monument's three bridges. A short walk delivers sweeping views of the delicate sandstone arch with distant Bears Ears buttes silhouetted on the horizon.
20-25 MINUTE DRIVE TO BEARS EARS NATIONAL MONUMENT
End the day at one of Utah's most iconic archeological sites. When sunlight angles into the south fork of Mule Canyon, the rock above this Ancestral Pueblo site appears to erupt in flame.
The beauty of Utah's Canyon Country is a reward on its own—but we want to give walkers a little something extra!
After logging your miles walked in San Juan County this year, you'll receive Utah's Canyon Country SWAG.
We will also feature some participants on our social media (Utah's Canyon Country), so please send us your photos and videos!
