Native American Artists to Demonstrate at Edge of the Cedars State Park

Native American Artists to Demonstrate at Edge of the Cedars State Park

Who: Christopher Lewis, Austin Coochyamptewa, Joshua Sanchez

What: Artist Demonstration

When: Saturday September 26, 10:30AM-3:30 PM

Where: Edge of the Cedars State Park

Join in at the Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum in Blanding, Utah while they host Zuni artist Christopher Lewis, Hopi artist Austin Coochyamptewa, and Acoma artist Joshua Sanchez as they demonstrate traditional art for the day.

Christopher Lewis has been weaving baskets for over 12 years. Lewis' passion for basket making comes from knowing how much importance is placed on baskets in Zuni culture, but finding only imported baskets being used in Zuni Pueblo. This revelation began his quest to bring basket making back to Zuni.

Austin Coochyamptewa is an accomplished weaver, silversmith, and carver of traditional katchinas. He has demonstrated sash weaving and carving at numerous museums and historic sites throughout the south west.

Joshua Sanchez is from the Acoma pueblo in New Mexico and has been a full-time potter for 7 years. He creates both traditional and contemporary pueblo pottery.
