Bears Ears Archaeology Teacher workshop with Project Archeology

We’re excited to offer another Bears Ears Teacher Workshop! This year’s session covers 3rd-8th grade curriculum over June 17-19, 2026 at the Canyon Country Discovery Center (1117 N Main St. Monticello, UT 84535)

Investigate an Ancestral Puebloan archaeological site from the classroom and learn about the people and cultures living in the region today. Discover new ways to engage students with the past through hands-on scientific inquiry and knowledge shared by Indigenous descendant community members.

This training includes:

  • Award-winning educational materials aligned to standards
  • Lunches and field trip transportation
  • Guided half-day field trip to select local archaeological sites
  • Cultural presentation by a local Indigenous elder
  • Two graduate university credits
  • Lodging included! Stay in a hogan or cabin (tent sites available too).

The full cost is $150. Scholarships are available! Reach out to Sarah Burak to be considered for a scholarship and to receive a special registration code: [email protected][email protected]

The registration deadline is May 15, 2026. Register through Project Archaeology’s website.

The workshop is sponsored by the Bears Ears Partnership, Southern Utah University, and Institute for Heritage Education.
