The Garden Cottage is your ideal location for an extended stay to take in the many impressive sights of the famous Southwest. Not only are you surrounded in Bluff by spectacular red rock country with many easy walks, but you are only 40 minutes from Monument Valley, where several John Wayne movies were made by renowned film director / war veteran John Ford. Just before you enter Monument Valley, you will see the long ribbon of road dip down into the distance - a scene made famous by another Hollywood icon, Tom Hanks, in "Forrest Gump", where Forrest stops running and turns to go back home.
There are lovely walks and hiking trails, right from your Cottage front door: the San Juan River is only 1/4 mile away; Bluff Great House is even closer - up Cemetery Hill. So is Calf Canyon, down the north side of Cemetery Hill.
There are numerous special places within an easy drive: Sand Island - on the San Juan River - with its extensive panel of petroglyphs (4 miles); the start of Bears Ears National Monument (16 miles); Mexican Hat with its precariously balanced Hat Rock (25 miles) and its delicious Navajo tacos at the restaurant where the bridge crosses the San Juan River; The Goosenecks (25 miles - turn right before you reach Mexican Hat); Moki Dugway (29 miles); Kane Gulch Ranger Station (54 miles); Natural Bridges (57 miles).
