Introducing Meghan McFall USU Blanding Small Business Development Center Director.

USU’s Blanding campus has a new director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Meghan McFall. McFall, originally from Beaver Utah, grew up in the rural areas of Beaver County in a farming family. 

Her early years were spent on the family farm where they raised beef cattle and Alfalfa hay. Early diagnosis of ADD and dyslexia were hurdles for Meghan that she overcame in stunning fashion.  At 15 she qualified for admittance to Utah State University in Logan. 

She started her college education with work towards an Interior Design degree. Life away at college as young as 15 had its challenges but McFall credits her background with 4H for helping her through such an experience. It provided her a network of friends with common experiences making life in a strange place with even stranger roommates, bearable. Meghan was chosen as 4H State Ambassador during her time in Logan. 

She lists travel and reading among her hobbies. She notes that she has also lived in 9 different states. She describes herself as a lifelong serial entrepreneur. 

Meghan’s resume lends serious street cred to her position. For 5 years she worked as a business consultant and turn-around manager with retail stores, start-ups, e-commerce stores and restaurants. Her work with the e-commerce industry earned her the National Association of Women Professionals Woman of The Year Award for 2016-2017. 

More recently she was involved with a Wealth Management firm. She has now turned her attention to helping other businesses develop. 

“USU has a lot of incredible programs.” States McFall. She cites their cooperation with the Small Business Administration (SBA) in backing some of the area businesses that can’t get loans through conventional sources. Her knowledge and experience should streamline things for those trying to go at this process alone. Informed guidance and an understanding of what the business owner is experiencing will definitely help calm those who might be nervous about negotiating those waters.

And McFall is enthusiastic about the 2019 Governor’s Office of Economic Development Rural Co-Working and Innovation Center (RCIC) grant award that will be funding USU Blanding’s Rural Coworking Innovative Center. Workspace and support for those needing high speed internet connections will be available at the campus soon. 

These programs will mesh well with the Rural Online Initiative. Recently, USU began offering a Rural Online Certificate through the school. It is a 15 week personal study course giving students instruction on organization and protocols necessary for successfully working remotely. The certificate of  completion will let prospective employers know the holder has the skills and discipline they are looking for in a good remote employee. Or with Meghans McFall’s help, that certificate holder may just start up the next Fortune 500 company.
